Private financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations provides the margin of excellence that distinguishes great universities from good ones. Direct state support accounts for only about one-third of UGA's annual operating budget. It's private giving that makes scholarships, endowed professorships, graduate fellowships and international study possible.
