Private financial support from individuals, foundations, and corporations provides the margin of excellence that distinguishes great universities from good ones.

But direct state support accounts for only about one third of UGA's annual operating budget. Private gifts focus on critical areas such as scholarships, endowed professorships, graduate fellowships, international study for students and faculty, research facilities and the campus master plan.
