The Federal Relations component of the office is significant not only for the relationships it brokers between the federal government and the University, but also for the work it does to communicate UGA's research activities and opportunities for Congressional budgetary support.
Student Opportunities in Washington DC
Washington D.C. Semester Program
Each fall and spring semester, up to twenty University of Georgia students have the unique opportunity to live, work and study in Washington, DC through the Washington Semester Program. The Washington Semester is the University's only DC-based program that is open to undergraduate students in all colleges and schools at UGA, and it's only comprehensive program, combining coursework, internships and a residential living environment.
Interns will have the opportunity to:
- Earn at least twelve hours of academic credit
- Work approximately 30 hours per week in an approved internship
- Live with other program students in the nation’s capital
- Connect with leaders in public policy, government and business
- Experience the art and culture of one of the world's great cities
Congressional Agricultural Fellowship
The UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the Congressional Offices of Saxby Chambliss, Johnny Isakson, Sanford Bishop, Jack Kingston, Jim Marshall and John Barrow are pleased to offer summer fellowship opportunities for students in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
Fellows will have the opportunity to:
- Attend agriculture committee hearings
- Prepare briefs
- Conduct agricultural research
- Meet with constituents
- Write a paper detailing his/her Washington experience as an Ag Intern
- Earn 3 semester credit hours toward an undergraduate degree
Honors in Washington Internship Program
Each year, the Honors in Washington Internship Program awards 10 second- or third-year Honors students a $2,000 stipend to support their participation in an internship program in a congressional office, executive agency or non-profit organization. Students can receive internship credit through their major or an approved Honors seminar.
