The mission of the Division of External Affairs is to integrate its major functions - development, communications, alumni relations, government relations and career services - with the academic mission of the University of Georgia and to serve its faculty, students, alumni and citizens of Georgia.

The goal of the division is to help position the university as one of the top-tier public research universities in the country, and Georgia's flagship institution of higher education.

The Division of External Affairs supports the University of Georgia through several functions that generate both financial and non-financial support.

Archway to Excellence : Campaign for the University of Georgia
Redcoat Marching Band Alumni Relations Maintaining contact with the alumni of the University of Georgia—now more than 200,000 strong—is the mission of Alumni Relations. Through its programs, tours, and campus events, the Alumni Relations office keeps the connection between alumni and their alma mater strong.Return to top of page
Financial Services Career Center The University of Georgia Career Center is a comprehensive career planning and employment center. It provides a complete range of services to students, alumni, and employers in the areas of career development, graduate and professional school preparation, experiential education, employer relations and campus recruiting.

Arch at night Development Through private gifts, UGA promotes and supports scholarships, endowed professorships, graduate fellowships, international study for students and faculty, research facilities and the campus master plan. Direct public support accounts for less than 40 percent of the annual operating budget. Therefore, through the Development Office, private gifts and pledges from individuals, foundations and corporations help to ensure the university's excellence in the academy.

Arch at night Financial Services The Office of Financial Services manages the budget, personnel, computing and accounting functions for the Division of External Affairs. In addition, the Office of Financial Services provides staff support for both the Arch Foundation and the University of Georgia Foundation. Support includes both financial and technical expertise to enhance the fund-raising, alumni relations and public relations efforts of the Division of External Affairs and the overall university. Government Relations Government Relations The Office of Government Relations is UGA's link to state and federal governments. The Office of Government Relations serves as chief liaison between the university and federal, state and local government offices and legislative bodies. The office is responsible for development and implementation of strategies and programs to attain public funding goals, and to foster positive and effective ongoing relationships with elected officials and executive branch leaders.

Office of Public Affairs Office of Public Affairs The Office of Public Affairs shares information with the university's various publics about its students, faculty, research, scholarship and public service activities using Web sites, news releases, Columns (the faculty/staff newspaper), Georgia Magazine (the UGA alumni magazine), marketing materials, video, photography, broadcasting, and tours for visitors.

Special Events Special Events The Office of Special Events designs, develops and manages special events that showcase the University of Georgia's excellence and promote advocacy and support for the institution.
